Deposit Advice

Can anyone offer me advice regarding deposits.Last time we part exchanged with a builder,the solicitor said we didnt need to pay a deposit as we selling also.I don't know if this was because of the part ex. or because we were buying and selling at the same time.
I am now planning to move and wonder if I will need to raise a deposit.I will be buying and selling at the same time using the same solictor.Sorry if this seems a stupid question but I hav'nt got a clue.Thanks in advance.

If you have already stated that your money is tied up in your current house, then you do not need a deposit.
