Maybe they've twigged that when we get more bad news, Troosers legs it down to First Ocean Credit and gets another loan for a big bag of sweeties...MiserlyMartin wrote: »The average person they poll must either be a little dim or just has believed Gordons stage show.0 -

Same happened in 1993, and the Tories won the poll that counts, John Major elected PM in his own right, despite Norman Laments blabings about 'green shoots of recovery' in 1991 that clearly got frostbite in 1992:DI find it rather strange that Labours poll ratings are getting better as the economic problems really strike home. The perceived wisdom is that gov'ts suffer as the economy suffers. It must say something about how the average voter perceives Labour versus Conservative policies in dealing with recession. Rightly or wrongly the Conservatives are seen as unfeeling and unwilling to take action to help the average person who may be unemployed or losing his house. Whether in reality Labour can do much better is a moot point but if Labour are winning this argument the Conservatives need to buck up their game.[strike]Debt @ LBM 04/07 £14,804[/strike]01/08 [strike]£10,472[/strike]now debt free:j

I have another theory that the general public have got so used to shifting their debts from one 0% credit card deal to the next and living their life on credit that when they see the government doing the same they think its the responsible thing to do!
I suppose they don't want to face the reality of paying it back and cutting back - they want the party to continue. 'unlike those nasty tories who want to be sensible with money'0 -

Ah yes I had forgotten about that situation. Labour really were the loony left in those days though. These days they at least keep it under wraps. Can't see that some Tory acolyte talking about how we need increased productivity (code for the common man must work harder) does much for their popularity.0 -

I can't find any mention of this on the bbc news site... strange that.0 -
the scary situation we have though is how weak the opposition is. Down here we tend to vote lib dem which I am happy with if only for vince cable, but we all know nationally that they won't stand a chance. Much as I dislike labour I'm not brimming with confidence for a Tory government either.0

Yeah, "Coopers to the Pound" just doesn't cut it as a headline...itsnever2lateisit? wrote: »Nah, but shes got Balls;)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7782234.stm"We have never had a policy of targeting the pound. Our policy has been to target inflation and that, I think, has been the right way. It has paid off over the last 10 or 11 years." (rofl, lmao etc etc...)
ps "A weak currency is the sign of a weak economy due to a weak government" - Troosers, 1992 ish...0 -
Keep talking about how bad the economy is, get people really frightened, make it seem worse than it really is, then when the apocalypse does not come to pass claim that our policies have saved the day.0
