Hi,
Friend of mine needs to get three years of old statements from Yorkshire Bank, and they want to charge £350. She has been a customer for 22 years and the only offer they have made is to knock £50 off. I suggested internet banking and print them, but she says you can't go back to 98 when she needs them from. (I think you can only go back as far as you have been registered for online banking)
Can anybody think of any legal arguments that she can use with the manager that may get her somewhere ?
Thanks

If you make sure that they know she is making the request under the Data Protection Act, then according the information commissioners website, they most they can charge fot this information is £10.0

If they have any doubt that bank statement information is covered by the act, respectfully draw their attention to the case of Durant v LloydsTSB where the judge ruled bank statement information is indeed personal information.
This would mean that it is covered by the DPA, and thus they must provide the info within a maximum of 40 days and charge no more than £10.0
