First Direct £100 Leaving Bonus

For anyone having any problems claiming their £100 leaving payment, I have the following tip.
When I called in to close my account, they refused to give me the £100 leaving payment. I requested that they move all my money out and leave the account open.
Following this, I left it a couple of days and then requested to close my account via the secure online messaging service. As other moneysavers have noted, you must include in this request the claim for £100 - about a week later I found that I could now longer logon to my First Direct account and upon checking my account with Nationwide was pleased to see that they had paid in the £100 bonus!
The reason I gave for closing the account was that the online banking was not as good as Nationwide's website and was confusing and difficult to use.
Good luck to anyone else claiming their £100 leaving bonus.

I just wrote them a letter...
My reason for leaving was:
"It infuriates me that you prefer to give £100 incentives to customers for leaving, rather than offering more competitive rates to customers that want to stay, such as myself. Though it is the annoyance of the £100 incentive that is causing me to leave, I won't be so proud as to turn it down myself. It will make up for the paltry interest rates you have offered me of late. I trust you will transfer it to my account before closing. Kind Regards..."
They paid it within a week and closed account.0 -
any other experiences from people who have received or been refused the £100 leaving bonus? had you mandated your salary or just used BACS transfers? Thanks0

It is never happened to me. Thank God.0

so has anyone had the £100 refused?0

Yep, they refused me. My reason was that their internet banking service was basic and flaky. Their reason for refusal was that I expected too much from the service. Because, you know, being able to transfer money from one account to another without "Sorry, We're Having A Problem" coming up every try is SOOO much of a demand.0

Being in both banks I can never remember how to login to Nationwide....memorable data, eh whats all that about. In fact out of at least ten accounts it's the only one I can't ever get into.0
