'we' just received a letter from 1st credit saying an amount of 199.75 is owed relating to 'legend, a brand of thus plc'
i say 'we' because thereis no named person o the letter and we are renting (we have been here 4 months) so i KNOW it isnt ours but as it doesnt have a named person on the letter is it some kind of scam?
id like to warn elderly neighbours if it is!
i have googled 1st credit and they seem to be either a loan company or a debt collection company. Googling 'legend' and 'thus plc' brings up some pages that use lots of words but dont say anything
obviously im not considering callng any numbers or paying any amount listed here just after some advice
thanks in advance

With no named person on the communication, it certainly sounds highly suspicious. If a genuine debt is owed, why wouldn't they address it to the specific debtor.
Are the contact telephone number(s) premium rate? If so, this is a common scam to get the householder to phone to query the letter and then get passed from pillar to post whilst the phone bill racks up. Alternatively, they just want you to phone and you'll be asked to confirm your details ... classic identity theft scam.

1st credit seems to be a genuine company. i will check the numbers are the same and inform them if they arent as someone is using their companies identity!0

Thus are a telecomunications company that are owned by Cable & Wireless. Legend are an internet provider (IP) that belongs to Thus and operates under the name of 'Demon' in residential homes. (Confused much?! lol). Therefore it's possibly the previous tenant that owes Demon the money and done a bunk and it's a ploy by 1st credit to find where they have gone.0

Hi helenathena. First Credit are a debt collection agency and are a genuine company. They'll probably bombard your address with mail in the hope of getting a response, so I would recommend phoning to query this with them.0

ive just had a missed call and googled the 0870 number as usual, its intrum justicia another debt collector!
i used to work for the rbs and had to deal with IJ daily and also customers who had been spoken to horribly by these people!
I think its time to call the landlord and get them to sort it out!
EDIT: just called IJ (not on the 0870 number) and spoke to a really nice guy. He said he will take my number out of the dialler but if its the same system we had at rbs the number will end up gettig called again in a couple of weeks probably!0 -
Once you give these people a contact they will bombard you with phone calls - see other posts.
Since April the OFT has been able to fine these people if the continually breach the code of practice, which includes not sending out letters addressed to "the occupier".

Report them to the OFT, if aenough people do then they will be fined, hopefully the full 50K0
