Virgin media wireless - Is it worth it?

Ok, I'm daring to go wireless as it's causing problems at home re: computer/PS3 use, so basically I'm wondering if this is a good deal for £47.00. Virgin offer:
Simplified set-up process
Full end-to-end wireless set-up – unlike most other routers, there’s no need to use cables between PC and the router anytime during set-up process
Pre-configured it with latest security so that you don’t have to.
I'm a complete nupty where computers are concerned (as anyone who's seen my previous posts can attest to!), so would this deal be OK/reasonable or are there cheaper alternatives - given that my youngest wants to use PS3 almost constantly!
Thanks

Qualifications :rotfl:
I'm with Virgin , using cable cat5 for home network. recently changed to a Linskys wireless router, 3 computers and a lap top.
For £47, they come to the house , supply a router, setup a 'working' system
If that is correct?? and you are quote ..complete nupty
Go for the deal
Yes you could ( with our help ) do it for cheaper, but its a good price.
A Net gear router costs £30 , Linskys more, plus getting hold of one etc
But You would be lucky to get a home visit quickly!0 -
Really? are you sure that they install it for the customer for £47.
That ! was my question!0 -

I doubt if the one that they supply is any better, than the much cheaper ones linked in post #2. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Just looked on Ebay and found this

It's all greek to me but would it be suitable?0 -
Actually Expresso just realised your #2 had links on it! Told you I was a nupty!
Thanks for that - just out of curiousity which of the Cable ones would you choose if you wanted a laptop, desktop and PS3 connected at the same time?0 -
kittykat - I have a ps3, desktop and soon to be laptop on 20mb broadband, and I am using the router which VM sent out, it is very easy to set up, however I would recommend getting an unbranded Netgear WGR614 UK I think from argos or amazon might be cheaper,. if you have any problems when setting it up just post here and im sure someone will help as its really easy
oh btw what broadband package are you on? if its 2mb then you have to pay for router, if its above 10mb then you get router for free
Im currently waiting for 50mb then Im going to get a N wireless router and adaptor for free yayyy0 -

No I have to pay - I tried to do a deal but the girl was like a brick wall. He ho.
Been looking at the NETGEAR WGR614 Wireless-G Cable/DSL Router on Expresso's cable post above. It's got excellent reviews but I'm not sure my ex or my son is up to the task. All this downloading firmware and changing default SSID settings or some such thing. Why can't they just be plug and play:cool:0
