Aldi Heart Rate Monitor

Hi

I noticed Aldi are selling a Heart Rate Monitor for about £13 - it also includes one of those chest belt things which is meant to transmit info to the watch for pulse rate etc.

Anyone bought one, if so is it any good? i did look into getting one a while ago but was put off by the price.

Thanks

My hubby has one of these (not from Aldi but the same as you describe). He bases all his exercise on his optimum heart rate for fat burn (whatever that means!) and wears it for everything exercisy. He's had it for about 5 years and it's just starting to go a bit wonky so may be sending him off to Aldi soon. He paid about £30 when he bought his which was apparently reasonable or so he told me.

The whole point of a heart rate monitor is so you can exercise at a level that will suit your goals. If you want to lose weight, then you can work in your optimuim range, or if you would like to increase fitness, then you work to your optimuim range for that. your maximum heart rate is 220 minus your age, fat burn is around 50-60% of your max, and cardio is around 60 - 70% of your max. For the money I would say grabbit while you can as it has helped me so much by firstly giving me a target to aim for, and secondly, its a boys toy, so I always want to play! At £13 you cant go wrong, and will make you feel like you are really pushing your self to burn maximum calories or increase your over fitness! I am no expert, but if you need anymore advice I will be happy to help, just pm me!

Bought one of these last time they were out, they work fine, but are a bit of a fiddle to set up. It even connects to the machines in my local gym !

...is that as you get fitter, the thing works you harder!

I use one regularly so, right now getting back into the gym thing after Christmas excesses, the heart rate monitor (HRM) is working me relatively lightly due to the loss of form - I was also away on a long training course just before the holiday too just to make things worse for me.

As I get back into the swing of things, the bikes/steppers/x-trainers that I regularly use with my HRM slowly turn their screws and increase their loads to ensure that my heart rate is kept to the setting.

I love the the idea of these. The only thing that puts me off is the chest band that you have to wear. Otherwise I'd have bought one years ago.

Don't suppose anyone has ever heard of one that doesn't require a chest band?
  • This is a good price, tescos had some for 20quid before christmas which were the cheapest id seen any of these!

I just posted this on the discussion time thread about benifits of the gym.

I always exercise with a heart moniter on. I know my limits and exercise within them. I don't need to huff and puff as I know the pace I am exercising at is working for me and doing me good.

In my experience the only ones that work 'interactively' with Gym equipment are the Polar ones. I very much doubt this will be a Polar one but it is still a great price.
