Romantic ideas needed please...

Hi guys,

After 9 1/2 years with my girlfriend  , I am planning to ask her to marry me on Christmas day (even just saying that is scary)

I haven't brought her a ring as I want her to choose it (bloody fussy thing she is :D ).

So today I got her a novelty ring from next (large fake diamond one :p ) and I am going to wrap it nicely with a note saying "Will you marry me?" in about 5 boxes starting small and getting bigger and bigger.

I wanted to know what else I could do (not costing too much) to make it even more special and romantic / memorable on the day. I mean either connected to the above surprise, or separate.

All help appreciated, thank you!

Instead of actually putting the words,"will you marry me",you could put pics of items which suggest the words and let it become a game.

Picture of a scroll for the will,a sheep for the you(ewe)sheet music of the bridal march(under its real name Chorus from Lohengrin) and finally some pics of you from birth to now. Or/and you could use the words "Please Be my wife" and take the same tack.

Just an idea, and it would make the occasion memorable, may not be to you taste though.

I think that sounds exactly perfect as you've planned it!
    Shes a lucky gall! :)

    Good luck!
  • How about adding a small momento of your relationship in each layer, a photo of you both in one, a cd that has your special songs on etc.
    :D:rolleyes:;):cool::o:rolleyes:;):o:o:cool:
  • Congratulations. Don't forget to get down on one knee when she unwraps the ring. To me, the traditional pose is the most romantic thing you can do and says the question without words. I don't think you need to do anything else.

4 boxes with "will you marry me" in individual box
so Will in the 1st box etc.
Then down on one knee as she opens the last box? Candles, wine etc --us women love romance ;)
TRYING hard to be a good money saver

My daughter (21) has her dream proposal all worked out.........

Horse drawn carriage in Central Park in New York after dark, with Proposal just before they leave the park.
Then on to Tiffany's where it will be opened just for them (with all the staff standing waiting wit trays of diamond rings) & her to be told to pick which ever she likes.

Were you thinking something a little less extravagant?:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

This sounds lovely!! I like the suggestion about putting a memento of your years together in each layer.

Maybe put the ring box inside a box of something quite naff so she would be secretly (or outwardly) a bit disappointed then when she opens it it will be even more of a surprise! Oh the roller coaster of emotions could be too much for her :)

I think your own suggestion is perfect.

I just wanted to tell you how H and I exchange our gifts. I'm not really sure how it started (probably me acting a bit spoilt :o) but it was our first Christmas together in our own place and we sat under the tree at midnight with a bottle of champagne with only the tree lights and a CD playing quietly for company - and opened our gifts to each other one by one.

We've done it every single year since and as we have children now, it's especially nice as midnight is for us and morning for the children. I'm just thinking it might be really nice for you as I'd say it's our most precious tradition - there have been quiet a few happy tears shed under that tree :) It would be mind blowing if it were the exact anniversary of a marriage proposal as well!
