Corsa gearbox not working properly

thanks flyfisher and goldenspanners, if nothing else the confusion over reading threads incorrectly made me laugh on my otherwise stressful day.

the linkage was replaced at a local independant garage last time as their labous costs were considerably less than evans halshaw, so I dont think that'll be getting done for free. I dont know a lot about what goes on underneath the bonnet but having looked around the linkage looked fine. I only know its the linkage as it is nice and shiny because like i said previously it was replaced less than a year ago.

Thanks for all the input and I know a lot of you will know considerably more than me about the workings of a car. But trust me, from driving the car I can safely say that what went on with the gears this afternoon was nothing at all like when my linkage began to wear earlier in the year

the linkage had been recently changed,so it should be covered.
why was it not covered with the original warranty anyway?

a worn linkage will have different affect to a disconnected / broken linkage.
if its worn it wont move enough to engage a gear. if its snapped, came off or broken then it will feel very loose and similar to what you have been describing.
