Best type of repair for a tooth chipped?

My son broke one of his front teeth in half and the nerve got exposed. It needed urgent treatment. He had to come back several times for a root canal treatment and he had to take antibiotics; to avoid infection. The dentist tried to repair his broken tooth, but it doesn't look so nice. That's because the tooth is dead now (and darkens). When he's a bit older it will be replaced by a white crown.0

Thanks everyone for your advice , the dentist repaired the tooth as it wasn't badly damaged with a white filling anchoring it to the adjoining front tooth... it looks actually fine but I really don't think its going to survive long term , she was told to be very very careful with it. The dentist said if it there is a problem with it she will do a veneer.. I honestly don't think it will be long before it either breaks away loosens, but we shall see..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

i was very careful with my filling - but it still came off 2 weeks later - while eating an egg sandwich (hardly the most challanging of dishes) and a vaneer was the only way to proceed - but hopefully her filling will get her through the party season.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. I had a repair done to a front tooth (the one next to the middle two iyswim) years ago - like 1999
And was told that it would probably come off in the next couple of months. It's not anchored to anything just purely to the "base" of the tooth. I guess it's about 1/4 of the tooth that's fake... and coming up to 2009 it's still firmly stuck there
as far as I can remember (and my mind was far more firmly focused on the needles as I have a dentist fobia and needle fobia!) all mine is made up of is normal white filling...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

That's often why the simplest things should be tried first.
You can never know what will work well in one particular patient until you try it and see.
People have different bites, different bite forces and bite and chew in different ways.
Sometimes things last well, and sometimes they don't.How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0
