BMI Airmiles

Well, im heading to the states next year. I booked my flight today with BA costing around 970 quid, which is ridiculous. taxes alone was around 340 quid!

I also wanted to use my BMI Airmiles (as I have a diamond club and also after that I have the BMI Amex credit card) as I have 24000 airmiles.

I want to spend the miles and found the exact hotel I needed to stay at but the scheme sucks when it comes to hotels!

for 6000 miles, this is £10! so £40 is for 24000 miles! this is according to their system.

How can this be? Surely this is... well, stupid? spend alot on the BMI Credit card to get airmiles and what not, plus their initial welcome bonus airmiles.... and this is how much they are worth when you try to spend it on a hotel?

is there another way to get value for miles?

best value for bmi miles (in many peoples opinion) is to use them to fly business or first class using the cash and miles option to get the biggest benefit - even to use them for an economy flight is a waste.
There is a good forum flyertalk.com that has a bmi board.
  • thanks. yes i did ask over on that board and all in agreance that the hotel rewards sucks! :(
  • is there no way what so ever to get more out from the airmiles for hotels? or maybe any other coupons/vouchers or some loop hole or something?
surely a customer that uses BMI including the credit card must be entitled to something

They are, Airmiles ..... The value of which is detailed in How To Spend Miles. :)

As for the value of the awards, BMI are hardly unique, when you don't use FF Air Miles for flights or flight upgrades, the alternatives are invariably shocking. ;) See below link to how many Flying Blue miles are required for a nights accomodation!!!!! ;)

95,000 Air Miles for a nights B+B in Paris!! .... 95,000 Air Miles four one way business class upgrades with change left over. ;)

As has already been said, you can use your miles against the cost of hotels.....it's just that if you do, men in white coats come along and escort you to a place where you can do no further harm to yourself;)

Caz3121 neatly sums up the perceived wisdom of bmi frequent flyers. The only point I would add is that, if you want to use miles plus cash for an award do it before Diamond Club is integrated with Lufty's Miles and Less scheme. Best guess on Flyertalk as to when that will happen is 12-18 months from now. Remember too, you can book flights at least 11 months ahead so you have got a bit of time in hand.
  • true but what im getting at is the hotel scheme is not as good as the flight scheme.... i cant even get a hotel for less than 1 day but can get like 3 return tickets easily to around zone 2/3

    Just a couple of points

    a) You won't get any flights without paying all of the applicable charges and taxes.

    b) 24,000 airmiles won't get you one flight from zone 1 to zone 3, let alone two or three.

As has been said, using Air Miles for accomodation or car hire is possibly the worst way to use Air Miles, regardless of the FF programme. :)
