Avatar help

My present avatar was put together from an image I had
to which someone kindly added the snow.

Can anyone tell me how can I combine snow like that or other snow I could find - I would like falling snow - to any avatar image?

Quite likely a Christmas Avatar thread will appear in the Arms soon, I saved mine to my photobucket two years ago!
