Police Mobile Speeding Units .... can you help???

Hiya,

We were driving on a dual carriageway yesterday (facing north), sadly as we were speeding, only noticed the police parked on the other side of the dual carriageway (facing south) at the last minute.

I'm sure I saw a flash but my hubby said that they would have been looking at the flow off traffic driving past them on their side of the carriageway and not ours.

I've done searches on the iternet to see if that is true but to no avail. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks

If it was a type-1 mobile enforcement unit (a man with a radar gun) then there wouldn't have been a flash as the speed measurement is based on laser beams which is used against traffic travelling towards them.

Other types of mobile enforcement unit utilise the devices in the back of the vehicle with the back doors open but they're always on the same carriageway as the flow of traffic.

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.

Yup, wait for two weeks to pass and if you get a NIP (notice of intended prosecution) you've been done. If you dont get one within that time, you're fine. Go to Pepipoo for more information though.

Oh, and keep an better eye out in future!

Our police force has tripod mounted cameras that work in both directions.
  • Its extremely unlikely a mobile speed trap would 'catch' you across another lane of traffic, unless it was parked on a bridge.
  • Thanks everyone for your replies.

My hubby would like to point out that he was 'allegedly speeding ':rotfl:

And if you do receive anything, keep the envelope.

And if you were on a dual carriageway, they should not target vehicles on the opposite aside to them anyway, if I'm not mistaken (I'm sure someone will correct me if I am). But as someone else said, the flash is a red herring. An officer in a car would not use a device that flashes. They use radar or laser.

If they are on a slip road they will usually check the traffic passing them and then chase the speeder and stop them. They do this on the A55 in North Wales where Omar Bin Brunstrom is in charge. Especially in the 50 mph limit through Colwyn Bay.
