As you can see i had debts at the same level as yours - i am on a DMP with payplan and although its going to take years to pay off at the current rate it is coming down slowly. Ring a fee free company either CCCS or Payplan before you write to your creditors - if they agree a dmp is the way forward they will contact your creditors for you.

Thanks for all the support and advice so far. Obviously I'm a newby so any help is gratefully received. Anyone know how easy it is to get a basic bank account. I'm with Barclays at mo but don't want them getting at what little cash I have0

Hi there, it was dead easy for me to obtain a NatWest basic account, no overdraft, no credit cards, no cheque book when I first started my IVA.
Best of luck.Debt at IVA agree date 1/3/08 £28k (reduced to £18,900)
Amount left 08/01/11 = £7560 (60.00% cleared!)
