Initial City Link Couriers

Options
I've had the most awful problem with the Gloucester branch of this courier company. We ordered two things on the internet, with different companies - both who advised us the delivery was via City Link. Both deliveries have followed a similar pattern - they don't arrive. After 6 days waiting in, continual phone calls, broken promises and general frustration I phoned their head office who promised to phone me back within the hour - guess what........nothing. :wall:

Yesterday, delivery was promised (by the City Link manager) for today, but it hasn't even been put on the van.

Both companies have refunded the delivery charges - but what I want is the items. In future if a company only uses City Link for their deliveries I'll go elsewhere.

I have also had trouble with this company. They just chuck deliveries over my back gate..... the last delivery was left in my newly emptied wheelie bin and as you can imagine covered with ****. Phoned the depot to complain, and was told a manager would call me..... that was a week before christmas...still no call. Am I surprised.....no!

    I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole!
  • I had a parcel that they tried to deliver yesterday and I was in the shower when they called so card was left, phoned up for a redelivery, and when it arrived today the delivery detail said leave with neighbours if not on which was quite annoying

It seems that if you are a business or unemployed (and thus at home by the door all day) they are quick and efficent. The problem is that their conditions of delivery specify only two attempts at delivery, able to specify only a day of delivery (not a time), and only to the person named on the delivery tag (i.e. it cannot be left with a neighbour; I don't know how this leads into leaving it by the doorstep or in the wheelie bin). They send it back to the original sender after five days, and being an economic business their depots are often quite out of the way.

At work, I'd have no trouble using them. For home deliveries, I always ask who the courier will be and if it's ICL I take my business elsewhere and am willing to pay a few pounds more for an item. If you do the same, tell the supplier why you're taking your business elsewhere - some of them won't care, some of them will.

The reason I was given was that at busy times ie. christmas, they employ agency drivers, who simply don't give a ----!

Not actually true in all cases - I have worked as an agency driver for courier firms in the dim and distant past, normally what happens is you are given the crapiest run with the oldest vehicle and more drops then santa, then when you can't complete it you are in the wrong for not knowing a route that the normal driver will have been trained for and done it for some time - when I worked as a manager in a similer business I would split the runs in half and get 2 agency drivers to cover it - at least that way all the work was covered. So it is not always the drivers fault - he is normally as peeved as you are when things go wrong.

A year ago I found them rude and nasty, which was not nice when I had just come out of hospital and hard to run to the door.

These days they are better - maybe it was the ranting I gave to head office

I am no expert in property but have lived in many types of homes, in many locations and can only talk from experience.
