Sony XPLOD MEX 1GP Car Stereo

Can anyone please help me with my car stereo. My bf brought this for me from USA, imported it over. However when I have plugged it into my car. It is not picking up the radio signals over here? Will it ever? How can I fix this? I am able to play CD's and load mp3 onto it, but I can't tune the radio stations over here.

i dont mean to sound patronising, but you do have the ariel plug connected dont you?
sometimes they have a different kind of connector from oem. you can buy adaptors to suit if you need it....work permit granted!0 -
Isnt US FM phased differentley?0
-
Also check whether the aerial uses any sort of powered amplifier and if that needs connecting. I don't believe the US FM radio system is any different to the UK's so I think it should work.0

im sure on jap cars you need to get something to sort an issue out0 -
Yeah, with Japanese market radios, you need to get an extender as they run a narrower range of frequencies than the UK so you usually find you can only get up to Radio 4.0

The stepping is different on US units. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AMERICAN-US-FM-0-1Mhz-band-expander-frequency-shifter_W0QQitemZ130275357459QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_3?hash=item130275357459&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C66%3A1%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A2%7C240%3A1318 has one of the items you need.
US units step at 0.2 Mhz, ie 100.1, 100.3 etc whereas we use 0.1 Mhz ie 100.1, 100.2, 100.3.0 -
and medium wave would be different too - our channels go in 9kHz steps, theirs 10
there may be a way to reset it, or it may be dedicated to only that market0 -
