whenever i switch my pc on, it gets to desktop screen then freezes saying explorer has caused an error in kernel32.dll, if i click on close the screen goes blank and then another box comes up saying explorer has caused a problem in gdi.exe and then the pc just hangs and doesnt do anything at all. i've tried a reinstallation but the problem is still there.
A friend said he could fix it by installing windows but all he's done is install it in another folder, now whenever the pc boots it boots from this new folder and all my settings are different cos not all the drivers are installed i the new windows.
Can i boot from the original folder and try and fix the original problem?

Ok is it a new PC or one that had ME on and or was it an upgrade?
Do you know how to find what drivers you have?
Do you know how to save all your important documents?
Do you have a full version of ME?
I ask this as I think a fresh install is the best thing to do.0 -
its not xp, its win ME both folders. its an old pc about 6 years old but it up until recently was working fine. the guy has installed ME in a folder called windows1 whereas it used to boot from the windows folder. I've tried uninstalling the new folder but it wont uninstall.0

Sorry I edited previous post..
So can you do a fresh install as the above still applies.0 -
the PC had ME originally, it's a Time PC but i dont have any other disks for drivers for stuff like the cd writer or anything.
now that it boots from the new installation of windows from windows1 it seems fine but i would like to go back to booting from windows not windows1.0 -
Save stuff to floppy or a pen drive.... or even email them to another account
or uplaod to a free online storage website.
Drivers are easy to find... they maybe on the restore CD or is it just a ME Disk?
but they can be easily got..
You can do this easily... and it seems the best way.0 -
is there anyway of moving the drivers from one folder to another?0

No as you need the programs not just the already installed drivers.. unless you use something like the Driver Guide Toolkit that will backup all the drivers
I am looking into this now.. a complete reinstall is not that difficult so give me a few moments.0 -
i'd like if possible to go back to how it was with just one windows folder .0
