You should sign up with the Mailing Preference Service (http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/), I get very little junk mail since signing up with them

I can second this, since we signed up with them we only get unsolicited mail from companies we already do business with.

There's also a telephone preference service(sorry, can't do links)which stopped dead all those cold-callers trying to sell us soffits and fascias and holidays etc.

I used to send back the senders own junk mail ripped in half in the pre-paid envelopes but now that I'm on maternity leave & don't have....ahem....:o....a whole stationary cupboard at my fingertips I now save pre-paid envelopes & reu use them with a sticker or bit of paper taped over the address/pre-paid bit & add a (second class) stamp.
    Well, waste not, want not:D.

And I always save & re-use padded envelopes this way too;)

When I worked at a mail handling centre - yes those little cards you send in with allyour info on do get processed by little minions in tiny ariless call centre style offices, sorry I digress - anyway when I worked there we had to remove all the names and addreses off the mailing lists and if any had DECEASED on the envleope they went to a special 'dead letter' office. Yes, really that was what it was called. Anyway, if you continue to send mail to dead people then their rellies can sue the comapny (both the mailing company and the company that the mailing company is working for) for harrassment.
It is a little like tempting fate (particularly as I ride a motorcycle - yes that's probably me that's just taken your door mirror off, why were you out so far? there was no way YOU were gonna get past the vehicle in front, AND in 10 minutes I'll be at work and YOU'LL STILL be in that traffic queue. so please be kind enough to move over when you see me next time - sorry digressing again)
where was I? oh yes taunting fate with a big stick and running away... Write deceased on your mail and I guarantee that within one month you will not receive any junk mail whatsoever. Most of the big companys use the same mailout companiues who all 'talk' to eachother anyway so sooner or later word will get around that you've 'died' and then the only one's who will still send you junk are Readers Digest - I dunno why this is they just (last mailshot) sent some stuff out to my ex lodger (he left about 6 years ago)...
    Anyway, hope this helps.

  • hehe fannyadams. good story telling, made me chuckle
  • I had a rubber stamp made up saying: "Re-using envelopes saves trees." It is increasingly difficult to find green endorsing ink pads, but black or red will do. I save a fortune reusing jiffy bags that way. And you also get thought of as green not mean.

I must admit I send junk mail back to the companies as well - I am on a mail preference thingy, but still get loads, especially from finance companies for some reason (No chance - once bitten and all that....)

Even requesting to be removed from their lists doesn't work, so I don't feel guilty about sending it back.
