West USA ideas wanted

I have booked two flights to Las Vegas for two weeks starting 21st April 2006 (got a good deal from Virgin), I want to use LV as a starting point to tour some of western US national parks like Yellowstone and Bryce Canyon. I understand that only the western entrance to Yellowstone will be open at this time.

Has anyone done this type of tour? if so any recommendations or itinerary ideas? I know it will mean a lot of travelling - but thats half the fun, we will of course spend a couple of days in LV, but we have visited before.

Any replies would be gratefully received

Look at my last post in this thread. I have posted some links to parks and the Southwest region.

We did a DIY Grand Circle tour in November 2000.

Don't miss Dead Horse State Point, it's awesome.

San Diego is my fav on West Coast.

also San Francisco that should be quite pleasant temperatures in April.
  • I'm doing exactly the same trip in the last two weeks of February.

We're currently still planning the exact route but an easy one you can do from Las Vegas would be Las Vegas-Grand Canyon-Page/Lake Powell-Bryce Canyon-Zion Canyon-Las Vegas.

Depending how much you wanted to pack in and how much travelling you wanted to do you could think about adding on Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly, Canyonlands, Arches National Park etc.

A couple of useful websites that may help are:

I'm also a big fan of San Diego and south California but I think you need to decide which way (east or west) you want to head from Las Vegas as there is so much to do you'll only really be able to do one.
