Anyone got any tips on how to save money while you're there? In particular would love to go to either Luxor or Cairo, so any tips on cheap flights, etc much appreciated.
Also keen to find out about any spas that are worth going to.
Lastly what about places to eat. Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance

All the tour reps do trips up to Cairo etc, so shop around. Just because your main holdiay is booked with say Thomson, it doesn't mean you can't go on the Panorama trip. A friend of mine did this in Sharm & got his trip to Cairo £20 cheaper. 4 people = £80 saved!
Eating - The Japanese Teppanyaki is a great experience. I think it's in the Ghazala hotel, but I may be wrong. My favourite place is the Mexican opposite the shopping centre. Fabulous food & cheap too. We ate (& drank) for about £9 per head. Their margaritas were pretty good.
Drink is quite expensive; a couple of places do early evening happy hours. We used to go to the Movenpick jolie ville beach bar for our (half price) pre-dinner G&Ts. These tips relate to Na'ama Bay BTW.0 -
hi becks,
must agree with Lucie about the Mexican in Naama Bay - fantastic! and the 'Brit Bar' (sorry cant remember the name)in the main cafe area (near McDonalds) if you get home sick. It is packed with expats in the evenings and a great atmosphere.
AVOID MCDONALDS - ate at some weird and wonderful places, but it was McDonalds that gave me the runs!!!
we had a fantastic, cheap all inclusive stay through lastminute.com, so ate mostly at the hotel.
Where are you staying? We stayed at Nubian Village Hotel , which offers, as most hotels do, trips to the pyramids etc. but these are very expensive compared to independent operators.
There is a taxi rank/bus station in the main square and touts sell tickets for these trips there. Worth taking a look as they were reliable and cheap.
If you are tempted by the Mount Sinai trip they offer - then do choose the overnight option (it is a very tough climb - cant imagine attempting it in the heat of the day!)
We had a wonderful climb with a small party of Brits, Russians and Italians led by one young Egyptian. As you climb through the night (take a torch!) you are regularly approached in the dark by arabs on camels trying to sell you a ride the rest of the way! 'camel? camel?'
You really will feel as if you have travelled back in time - it was truly magical and I will never forget it. Climb up but come down on a camel for a pound!! do take plenty of water though!
We decided against the Cairo trip from our hotel. £95 each for something like 6 hours in a baking hot bus or £140 each to fly. Only found out about a cheaper company in the square when our holiday was nearly up.
hope you have a fantastic time - I am really hoping I can get back there later in the year (hubby and I went alone last time, so will be looking for a good deal for us and our 5 children!!)
hope that helps

My fave restaurant in Naama bay is the Tamtam - next door to the Hilton Fayrouz on the beachfront. Great food and very cheap also.:j0

The other Brit bar is The Tavern Bar which is the opposite way from MacDonalds and down a back lane near the big Russian Club.
Both bars have the footy on should you require the need.Vedra Nativa0
