Poll: What's Your Motivation?

Hi there,

Inspired by all the hard working posters on this forum, I thought I'd start a little light hearted poll. In my mind - doing anything difficult is made so much easier when you have a clear motivation in sight. (That's why it's called visualisation after all!)

With my H I am £20,000 in debt. The reason we want to clear this debt is because we'd love to have another child. I try to picture myself signing that last cheque, and finally being debt free for the first time in my adult life. I focus on how free and happy and proud I'll feel having made all these sacrifices and taken control. I will be relaxed about trying again, because no longer will we be worrying about how we'll afford it! And as soon as that last cheque is signed, we'll start putting all the "debt" money aside to start that savings pot.

And once that happens, we can try for another baby.:)

What is your goal? How are you going to get there? How willl you know you've got there? And how will you feel when it happens?

My goal is to clear all below on my signature.

    My motivation is control..
I used to feel in control spending money (what was I thinking?)

Now I feel in control paying it back!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

my motivation is disposable income, at the moment i am having microwave meals at work and scrimping and saving at home, i would love to be able to get to lunch and think i really fancy a KFC today and not feel guilty about buying it.

Although to be honest i do get a buzz from moneysaving, knowing ive beat the big boys, so i'll probably carry on and start saving.

I am newly debt free, but my goal when I was in debt, was that I wanted to go travelling & not feel as though I HAD to work, and just have more of a choice in life and not have everything boiling down to money!!

Now I am debt free, I still life frugally (because I am saving to go travelling), however, I won't spend money for the sake of it, and if I can get a better deal by sjopping around, or a discount code from here - then I will use it.

Finding bargains make me happy now, whereas before, spending money used to make me happy - although this was shortlived as it wasnt my money to spend, so I then felt guilty, it was a vicious circle!!

Now I am looking forward to being financially independent, and eventually look forward to buying my own place - and because i am not on extravagent wages, and a single person, if that means having to save a £20,000 deposit, I will do!!

I want to look after myself and never be stressed about money again!!

I'd like to be able to start a family with no debt but the mortgage and the car finance hanging over us. We could afford to now as we can easily meet our minimum repayments but we realised that, if we did, we would probably look back on these years and wish we had done something about it now while we had no responsibilities.

  • I want to stop having this "bag lady" syndrome. I'm doing really well and living frugally, but sometimes I take it too far because I'm always afraid of having the rug pulled out from under me. (I felt guilty yesterday, buying a snickers bar and a Big Issue. *rolls eyes*)

I also want to be debt free when we begin to have children, and more importantly have the right habits so I can teach by example. I also don't want a baby to send our finances into a tailspin, so I'm teaching myself financial adaptability now. Saving for a down payment on a house, especially in Oxford, is also a major life goal for me! :j

I'm not in debt any more but my motivation for money saving is to leave university with savings rather than debt (except student loan). Currently I have £600 in savings (since I changed my ways a few months ago, cut back, payed off debts and started saving) but I will ideally have more than that when I graduate in July. I want to feel that I have a bit of money saved to help me do the necessary to break into my chosen career after uni. Finding a job and beginning a career feels stressful enough without worrying about money too. The relaxed feeling I have when I know I have savings in the bank is what motivates me!

Knowing it was going to make my life better when it was paid off was my motivation. I have more money per month and now I am saving for the things I want. Also knowing you can look forward to the post coming in the morning.
