  • Cancel the TL and re-book using my earlier suggestion in central london.

Easier all round and you can have a good drink with your meal.

I see. I didn't realise it would be difficult to get from the TL to the tube. Don't suppose you know the price to park my car if I did drive to Paddington like you suggest? I could get a bus from the TL to the tube at Heathrow couldn't I?

It is beginning to look like the travellodge Heathrow is not the best place to stay if visiting London!

Don't get me wrong, we've stayed at that TL before, it's good value for money. But, as said elsewhere, what you save on £££ you end up spending on 'time'!

I wouldn't want to comment on parking charges in London. They're so variable depending on time of day and night. Also, security issues may be relevant. The nearest (to town) free on-street parking I know is by Ravenscourt Park tube station. Other locals may know better.

One more point, you need to be clear if you're staying on the Eastbound or Westbound side! If Eastbound, you're straight back on the M4 into London. If Westbound, you have to go out and round the back streets to get back on the right way! Obviously, the reverse is true if going back Westbound!
  • It's not all bad news for those staying at the Travelodges at Heston as a cheap alternative to central London, especially if you are a family requiring 2 rooms like our family is - we could never find anywhere in Central London to accommodate all 6 of us for only £20 a night. We always buy day travelcards no matter where we stay in London, and the price difference between a travelcard for Central London only and Greater London (zones 1-6) is £11.80 for 6 of us in Central London or £14.60 for Greater London - so it cost our family only £2.80 more and the travel time for staying in outer London. It works out at only £34.60 per day for a night at the £10 Travelodges and unlimited public transport after 9.30am, that's only £5.77 each for the day!!! We have done this 3 times in the last year on the £10 Travelodge deal.

It's not all bad news regards public transport from the Heston Travelodges in to London. You can get the H32 bus every 10 minutes to either Southall train station or Hounslow West tube station for the Eastbound Travelodge or the 111 bus every 10 minutes to Hounslow Central tube station from the Westbound Travelodge. Journey time is quickest via Southall at 50 minutes to Paddington or slowest via Hounslow Central at 1 hour and 5 minutes to Leicester Square.

So if you are really tight like us and don't mind being out all day (no nipping back when it takes an hour), then outer London Travelodges are great.

You can travel in to London
  • Thanks again. Quite interesting.

I don't mind not going back to the TL all day, that no so bad.

I like the London pass tickets. something to consider. £52 for a three day pass including transport.

I could use my clubcard vouchers for other things like some of the restautants :)
  • Checked the Heathrow TL (west) web page and the nearest tube is 2 miles away.

    Did you check this?

BernadetteN , you seem to have it sussed. I am keen to use the travelodge £10 option as the kids like it and they are usually pretty good. The other advantage is that you can park your car for free and then go out the way to legoland etc/thorpe park /farms etc etc -that's correct isn't it?

have you any good suggestions for outward trips ie from London as my children are younger and get bored easily of London and the crowds.

2nd Q-we have used travelodge for 3 children as one under three and had a cot-once he is three does anyone know if we will have to do as BernadetteN and book 2 rooms?

    Thanks
  • Well I'm going in a couple of weeks.

I have bought the londonpass (Taking advantage of cashback from QuidCo & AMEX). I have some vouchers from tesco too, so that will help with a couple of meals out and other things.

We'll be there for three nights. Does anyone have any other recommendations?
