Clearing credit report of previouse accounts

Morning all,

This is probably the wrong board but expect i will get the best advice from here.

I recently signed up for the free experian credit report, Iv previousely used equifax and that report is in excellent condition once i got my only default removed.

On my experian report I have a few issues with old accounts I have 2 store cards listed only used to get the initial discount and then cleared it instantly (in the store) these are over 3 years old but are showing as active in my credit report (card were cut up once i got home) I also have a old car finance agreement thats showing as active this was payed off in 2002.

Can i close accounts I dont have the numbers to and how will I do this ? also will closing these affect my credit rating as once these are closed I will only show as having a morgage and 1 credit card.

Regards
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

Firstly were the accounts ever actually closed? , and can you contact the lenders in the first instance to ensure they were?

if the accounts were closed and the file information is incorrect then raise a notice of dispute on-line with the credit reference agency and they will approach the lender on your behalf to verify the accuracy of the data.
Ini fairness though if the accounts have all been maintained well, and are showing as paid on time then this is actually helping your "credit score" providing the available limits on the cards are not exceptionally high.
 It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them

the store cards are £200 and £300 limits each so probably ok in this case, the car finance is £2000 which is showing as settled but each month its showing as balance paid, am i right in thinking that if i can close the car finance and keep the store cards open as they are that i will be able to apply for higher credit limits in the future ( eg new credit card applications) , im currently closing 2 unused cards which total £9000 available credit.
