Charity Auction Advice

Hi

I have just started organising a dinner dance in support of Group B strep support (Registered Charity Number 1112065 )and in memory of my son Cayden who passed away in April of this year from this terrible illness.

As part of the evening we will be holding an auction of celebrity memorabilia and i was wondering if anyone had experiance of holding such an event and also names of celebritys who were likely to oblige.

Also i intend organising a raffle and will be looking for companys to donate great prizes, once again does anone have any successes they can pass on to me.

We hope to raise £5000+ from the event which will go along way to helping the charity which receives no govenment funding

I would be grateful for any advice people can give

Adrian

Here is a link to the charity http://www.gbss.org.uk/. I wish you all the best and I am sorry for your loss. I hope that you will get the help you need here.

BTW It is a good idea to provide a direct link to the chairty so that people can check it out.

always start by asking the charity concerned if they can offer any advice, support, publicity or local contacts. They may have suggested letters to write for raffle prizes.

when i did a charity auction over a yr ago now but i found it was the smaller places that gave more rather than the large stores, ie local beuty salons, southend adventure island. friends who had signed stuff stashed away etc, a couple fo the football teams sent us signed balls or shirts, buy agift sent me a code for something like 30% off anything i bought to auction and everything i ordered from there went for more than what i paid for it, ie chelsea football tour, ball sphereing,go ape etc. tesco and asdas etc generally sent a £10 voucher or something similar which was fine for the raffle

see if there are any celebrities that support your particular cause and get in touch with them as well.

good luck, i only did a small scale one at a local football club and ended up raising around £3500 for the night for children with leukemia, i was so gobsmacked at peoples generosity.

get a good compare though, and me and some friends dressed up a bit to show off the auction lots and sell raffle tickets which was a giggle and the guys dug deep in thier pockets to spend thier money lol
