How can I find landline number to our new house?

Hi all and happy festive seasons.

We have just moved into a new house and there is phone sockets etc. Is there any way I can check what the number is so that I can take SKY up on their 1/2 price line rental?

Any advice would be lovely!

If there's a dial tone, dialling 17070 may tell you.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Could you not ring someone that has caller display?
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • You have to have an active line to transfer to sky. If the line is stopped it will have a soft dial tone but no outgoing calls can be made so you will need to reconnect it with a service provider that does reconnections. BT is a 12 month term so you wouldnt be able to transfer to sky without a termination charge from BT. Post office do reconnections for free and with no contract so you MAY be able to get them to connect the line and then jump ship to sky but i would advise you to check with them first.
If there is no dial tone then the line is ceased an a recon fee may apply (£122.33 with BT unless an 18 month contract is taken with huge charges if you leave them within the term.

Phone your mobile using the landline, then dial 1471 on your mobile to get your landline number.

"1.6 If you have chosen to take Sky Talk Line Rental and you do not have a BT compatible line, we may be able to arrange this for you and you will need to pay Sky a connection fee. We will inform you of our current connection fees at the time you book your installation. Sky Talk Line Rental customers do not need to pay any other provider for line rental."

That will tell you providing your connected to BT. "This circuit is defined as.... YOUR NUMBER". If you're not yet connected it will probably give you nothing as you won't have a number yet.
