Gordon Brown (SCO) - As a man who played in the amateur days of Rugby Union, Brown never got what his talents deserved. A Scottish international from 1969 to 1976 he won 30 caps for his country.
He was also selected for three Lions tours in 1971, 1974 and 1977, winning eight caps. On the 1974 Tour to South Africa, Brown scored a phenomenal eight tries for the Lions, including two against South Africa themselves to help the Lions to a fantastically successful tour

    2) Maybe this one? R L Aston

The star of the tour was England centre RL (Randolph Littleton) Aston, who used his 6’3” height and 15-stone bulk – as well as an impressive turn of speed – to power his way over the try-line 30 times in all.

JOHNSTONE, W. E., RALPH and ROBERT late 19th century
The Johnstone brothers were born in Donegal and they were all international rugby players. They represented Dublin University and Wanderers and from 1884 to 1892 won six Irish rugby caps between them. Robert was a member of the British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa in 1896. He was awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery in the Boer War. Ralph also played cricket for Ireland.

  • I think question 1 answer is half right, Robert Johnston was 1 that was awarded the vc I think the other could be Thomas Crean,

The 1896 Lions were a remarkable, eclectic bunch and among other things included two future winners of the Victoria Cross in their pack, both being awarded for acts of heroism back in South Africa during the Boer War.
Thomas Crean, an Army surgeon with the Imperial Light Horse, won his VC at Tygerkloof in 1901 when, although seriously wounded himself, he continued treating wounded soldiers until he was shot a second time. He also won the DSO on the Western Front in World War One.
Robert Johnston, who joined the Imperial Light Horse with Crean, who was also a club colleague at Dublin Wanderers, won his VC at Elandslaagte just three years after he had been an honoured guest in South Africa, when he showed outstanding courage in moving forward under heavy fire, at point blank range, to enable a decisive flanking movement to be carried out. He was badly wounded during the action but was nursed back to health by Crean
