Odd issue with Halifax Easycash

Last week or so I applied for one of these accounts online. Today the card dropped through, I activated it and am just waiting for the PIN. First odd thing is that they never asked me to present any ID at a branch - I assume this is because I already had an account with them and have been a Bank of Scotland customer for years? Anyway here is the slightly more odd part: the sort code of the account appears to be for a branch in Halifax, possibly their HQ(?), rather than my own branch in Glasgow. I have found out the name of the street it is in, but not the address, this will cause problems with Direct Debits, surely? I was trying to link my account to Paypal, but it seems they want the full branch details to set up the direct debit they use for account verification. (edit: of course I had forgotten I can just use the debit card for that, doh).

Can anyone explain this one?

I have two accounts with the Halifax. My student current account which the sort code applies to my local branch, and then I applied online and got my guaranteed reserve saver which has a different sort code. When I went in to pay the money in, they didn't understand why it didn't come through the sort code of my local branch, neither did my Dad who works there. Not sure why it happens but your not the only one stumped by it.

That is perfectly normal - they know who you are, and will have the details of the ID they have seen in the past recorded on the system, so there's no need to see it again.

The sort code really has no impact upon the account itself. As this account was opened online, the sort code will be for Halifax's Head Office. But it's no problem! If you need an address for anything, just use Halifax, PO Box 548, Leeds, LS1 1WU, or your local branch. It really makes no difference, as everything will just be entered on to the system, it doesn't matter who typed it in and where they were.
  • excellent, thanks!
  • Life's kinda short. I'm sure you've got more pressing matters to worry about than this.
