How can fraudsters use my cancelled card?

I found an unknown transaction on my statement in early November - called the bank cancelled the card and got a replacement. Got the money back no problem.
A month later, I find 5 transactions, (4 for NAT EXPRESS-ELECT COMM, and 1 for Shadestation) on my account over the space of 4 days. I was told by LloydsTSB Fraud people that the transactions were made on my old card! This doesn't make sense. I'm told a fraud alert is now on the card so it can't be used again and I'm getting the money back.
Has this happened to anyone else - payments going through a significant amount of time after the card has been cancelled?
Thanks

The card has either been cloned or a card generator has been used.
Frustrating I know but at least you are safe in the knowledge that the bank will refund the rogue transactions.0 -
If an old card was used that had a floor limit and the transaction fell under the floor limit, then the transaction may have slipped through the net that way.
If it did, the bank is obliged to pay it because they essentially count as guaranteed transactions, because you're trusted with that floor limit. So, as said, it may be a cloned card that they just haven't gotten around to using as of yet. What would William Shatner do?0 -
Thanks for that.
It still seems crazy that a card thats been cancelled can still be used. The fraud people said 'small transactions can still get through', but they were all around £50-60. Not huge amounts of money, but not insignificant.....0
