Installing new water pipe for better water flow?

Hi everyone,
We've installed a new combi boiler and have had to lay a new water pipe in our front drive to connect with the main supply - in order to improve water pressure/flow.
Our family plumber, has quoted £300 - which includes labour - (digging up front drive and laying new pipe etc.) and materials (new water pipe etc.) He also did the earthing for the combi boiler today and had to connect the new water pipe into the house.
a fair quote in your opinion?
many thanks

ok thanks for that - just at this time of the year I hear sometimes quotations sky rocket - so just wanted to make sure0

It sounds quite reasonable. I did this at an old house of mine, but I had to move a shed and dig up concrete etc to replace old lead piping. It took quite a while. My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.0

It seems very reasonable, especially if the excavation is being done with a spade. As someone who has hand dug the foundations for a house that I built, I know just how much hard work digging can be.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

Yes - the plumber used a spade to do the digging - otherwise it would have cost even more to hire a bulldozer. thanks for all the help0 -
hit a bit of a snag just now....our boundary water supply tap is quite low down (2-3ft approx) and is the old style. Plumber would now have to dig 2 feet down with a bulldozer to get to the supply tap.
It would probably cost us £150 just to hire the bulldozer for a day.
I reckon it would be cheaper just to call in the water board who would fit a brand new stock tap/do the piece through piping/do the bulldozing all for £289.
what do you all think?0 -
Whats your old pipe made of? There may be a lead replacment scheme.
I had a lead pipe, seven trent conected up a new MDPE pipe for FREE I just had to get it to the edge of the property following their guide lines, total cost £25 (for the pipe) + £15 for a high quality trenching shovel and some sweat!
Note I was not required to have a water meter fitted0 -

I do believe its a lead pipe (from the reign of queen victoria hehe) my property was built back in the 1920's - its a very old stock tap. Im hoping for them to replace it with a brand new one - but my water board is three valleys and they are religious orthodox tighta$$es (excuse the french).
A senior supervisor is coming tomorow to check the tap - everybody please pray that they replace it with a new one for a minimal amount :A0 -
