We have some recipes for oatmeal biscuits in the nibbles section of the Old Style Recipe Index that you might be able to adapt...

You can find it via "Indexes" in my signature any time you see it or...

..you can use the Indexed Collections link in the Blue Bar at the top of every page which looks something like this:-

speaking of museli and homemade versions of stuff

i recently saw an ad for alpen's museli with apricots and dates

the thought occured to me that lidl sell a 1kg bag for 99p (i think) so i bought that which already has the nuts in and will add in my chopped up dried apricots (i get a big bag for only £2) then add in some dessicated coconut (bought a huge 2kg bag years ago for £1.99) and maybe some sultanas. i can get dates cheaply too but they aren't my favourite and they are sooo messy

i will chop the apricots in my food processer then mix everything in a big bowl and pour into a storage container. cheap luxury museli!

i wouldn't recommend buying the uber cheap value museli as a base though, in my experience it's something akin to animal feed and it will have you chewing on it til the end of time, i know museli takes awhile to eat but the value stuff was increasing that time exponentially

    thanks for the replies:)
I'll have a go at adapting the Chewy Muesli bar recipe, maybe using Jordan's oaty cereal as it's the only wheat free muesli-type cereal I've found.

I am keen to make some kind of snack bar ( other than flapjacks !) without using sugar as much as poss also no wheat.

I have some non-wheat flours ( rice, gram, spelt, and rye), but little experience as to know they bake.
    thanks again !

Wee love the sandwiches from Subway but find they are too expensive to eat all the time so we now have HOME MADE SUBWAY NIGHT at home.
    To make four you need.
    1 x Long baguette cut into 4
Cut each one in half and fill with leftover chicken, sliced ham, cooked bacon, tuna, or whatever you like, then cut a cheese slice diagonally and put that on top of the meat. Pop it (open) under the grill till cheese starts to melt then add sauce or salad if you like, close it up and scoff !! yum yum.....

    Quite cheap too !!

i've seen a recipe sometime ago that you might like

basically you take a tablespoon of peanut butter you roll it around in coconut, sultanas and powdered milk it's supposed to be really nice

you could also try it by rolling it in museli though you may want to briefly soak the museli in water or milk to soften the oats up a bit

i keep meaning to try these, i think dd would really like them

    Okay here goes....

Take the basic flapjack recipe and where it says to add golden syrup use a similar quantity of processed (blitzed) dried apricots and a little bit of apple / orange juice instead of caster sugar. ... all in all works luvverly!

That's what I've been doing for my daughter .. although she doesn't get a look in cos DH normally wolfs it down!

I've bought some oatmeal to try making a crumble topping over a fruit layer, but will try to get the basic recipe sorted before trying the advanced stuff
