Blimey, you're a loving husband aren't you - what respect you show to your wife's profession. Lucky woman.

Tell me, where can one meet a misogynistic, pompous, arrogant and ill-informed man such as yourself? They're a real catch, but they're fast becoming extinct in this 21st century.

And ironically, I didn't disagree with the rest of your rant. Shame you had to add such a !!!!!! comment.

Where's the misogyny? He doesn't seem to have contempt for women, his wife just happens to work in a non-essential industry.

What if he said he worked in PR and didn't have high hopes for his job during recession, but at least his wife could support them as her line of work was likely to be a bit more robust in a downturn? Self deprecating misandry?

    Neo feminist bull!!!!.

I can't believe 13 posters thanked a post that strarted "I think it's about time we had a recession".

What are you all - nuts?

The only thing I agreed with in this post is that the poster signed himself out as stupid.;)

I wonder if they will be thanking them when their deposit for there house is used to pay the rent and feed them when they loose their jobs.
I don't know why some people who have saved think they are now imune from a resession.
The truth is the resession won't care if you are in debt or loaded but one thing is for sure it will bring you to an equal level to everyone else on benefits.
Some may then have a more tolerent view on their fellow humans because most will not kick them when they are down like they want to kick others.
  • I'd rather have tons of savings than tons of debts during a recesssion.
    There is no tomorrow...

Why one goes bankrupt one ends up skint in 18 months.

    They both have no money.

Will you not have a debt when you buy a house? will you survive another recession before paying off that debt.

There is no moral superiority in not being in debt.

Oh my goodness! It almost turned into a Dawkins rant,

"a misogynist, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully"

My wife and I laugh about her current role. Indeed although I have some knowledge of PR most of what I know comes from my wife who happens to work for one of the largest PR agencies in the world. The only reason I look down on it so much is because of her views and the views of her colleagues.

The thought that I am somehow a misogynist is ridiculous. Even if I were nothing in my post would indicate it.

PR is an example of one of those sectors that will feel the pinch because what it brings to the table is difficult to measure and more often than not a nicety. Very much like interior decorators that work for large organisations or even those in HR. These are the people that get laid off first. Why? Well because they add little to the balance sheet at the end of the year. That's all I was saying.

Oh, and btw, my wife is reading along with this and having a chuckle. She finds your description of me somewhat amusing. Perhaps a little too much :)

The only way we can fix this mess is with a hard sharp shock. Nothing short of the equivalent of a dentist's drill will change people's attitudes to debt and that's exactly what we need. A change in attitude.

You're all acting like a recession is the end of the world. Like it's something that only happens every one hundred years. Economics 101 will tell you differently and economics 101 will also tell you that when you're in a mess, a recession is not always a bad thing.

I feel so bad for people in trouble. Only yesterday I went a little mad at a poster on here gloating at Woolworth closing down. The thought of those staff trying so hard yet ultimately losing their jobs over the Christmas period is very very difficult to stomach.

However something has to be done about the country's reliance on debt as a form of wealth. We have seen such massive increases in consumption, in house prices, everything seemed so wonderful. Yet all of it was built on a house of cards. People wanted to keep believing that it could continue. It couldn't.

I hope for a very deep yet quick recession. I hope for little government intervention. I do not want the US or Europe to try and somehow beat the downturn. It's purely a political move with a populist agenda. Let's get on with what we should deem as a 'correction' rather than recession.

You see, that's exactly the attitude that got us here in the first place. "Who cares about debt, savings are crap anyway".

I mean for goodness sakes, don't we want to encourage people to save? In any case, your analogy isn't exactly valid is it?

Cēterīs paribus the person with the savings will be in a better position than the one without.

The current interest rate situation notwithstanding, I'm not exactly crazy about saving my money for anything other than a rainy day at the moment.

The Pension situation is just rubbish and even if I put aside as much as I can spare each month from now until I retire, I'll still be on the breadline when I retire.
Currently, my pension plan comprises a video nasty and a large gun.

True, it's tough for savers at the moment but when I said save I really meant saving money to spend it rather than buying everything on credit.

Ah ok - yes, well that mentality went up in smoke when Northern Rock started offering 125% Mortgages and banks started lending to any Tom, !!!!!! or Sally, didn't it!

Even with a recession I still think it's going to take a fair while for people to snap out of the debt-culture that we've been in for the best part of a decade (and the rest).....
