  • Come back and tell me that in 6 months. You've never seen a recession and you've never seen a recession like the one coming.

    I have seen a recession - I was 12 in 1990, so I remember that recession well.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

You need to think about this objectively rather than running around blaming everyone you can think of and screaming .

Firstly, it is about feelings for me. I honestly don't see how posters can cheer something that is going to be so horrible for so many people. I do understand alot about what is going to happen, which why I don't see how anyone can think there is anything to be cheerful about. Also I don't see how so many posters can be so confident that they are not going to be affected, whilst wishing ill on others.

TBH it makes feel sick that people have so little compassion for their fellow man.

Well actually, I do think they are entitled a house in London. They are Londoners, born and bred here and have been at work continually since Uni. Both earn a good salary and hopefully are in secure jobs.
I know that nothing is certain and their jobs like anyone elses aren't 100% safe.
The one thing I do know is that a year ago there was no way they would have been able to afford to buy a property. This crash or the beginnings of one has opened a door of oppurtunity.
BTW like others we are not cheering other peoples misfortune. I am just glad that at last they may get what they deserve or entitled as you put it.

I'm just saying be careful what you wish for....it might not turn out as you want. I'm not wishing bad things on them. I'm just saying that by cheering the HPC, you might actually be cheering a worse fate for them, though of course I hope not. Just spare a thought for the less fotunate. Most people are innocent in all this.

Yeah but you were too young to be affected by it.;)

Well that's what I've been told when I was talking about the percentages that close relations of mine lost due to life circumstances on another thread.

Some people are unaware that some adults will talk to older to make sure that if they ever end up in the same/similar situation they have an idea of what to do.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

    Perspective.
There are over 6 billion people on the planet. 3 billion have no access to housing other than the type they make themselves out of sticks and mud or pallets and corrugated iron / plastic. There will be a rise in the number of homeless in this country as a result of this recession but most of the people who suffer consequences will just find themselves drinking potable water, using electricity and are unlikely to be hacked to death with machetes.

The victims of the global downturn in order of importance...
British shareholders and bankers, British citizens who gambled with debt on perpetual boom, british citizens who didn't gamble with debt, british citizens who couldn't gamble with debt, other citizens of industrialised nations, peoples of china and india who are no longer required to make clothing and crap for the previous victims and so must return to subsistence farming.

In fact the people least troubled by the economic crisis are those who had nothing to lose anyway. Where's your compassion aimed?

Yes I know what you mean. My son was 6 and told us that his chums and he had discussed the situation. They recognised that as Santas Grotto was in negative equity and his transport had been re-possessed that Christmas presents would be in short supply. He asked if we could get him presents instead and was very philosophical when we said 'No'. He still speaks to me.

Once again you are totally missing the point. It's not a case of being cheerful about what is happening but understanding that it must happen. Getting emotional and laying blame at people's door helps no one.

I was around the same age. I was limited to how many pieces of bread I could have a day. I remember having to move home, no longer having the car, having to walk to school rather than take the bus because the bus pass cost too much.

I think one can be severely affected at that age. Seeing your mum and dad struggling to make ends meet.

I remember we had this electricity meter and it took something you had to buy from the post office, a card or something. Well one week my mum didn't have the money to get to the post office on time so we didn't have electricity for two days.

Oh, I also specifically remember this bloke coming to the door one December. He had all these notes, must have been like a thousand pounds. I remember my mum taking the money. We had an amazing Christmas. Incredible, all the presents we wanted. What wasn't so nice was the 60% interest she was charged which left her paying it off for years and years. That certainly taught me an awful lot about borrowing and debt.

Those years for those of us that suffered due to the recession were very memorable. Both parents losing their jobs and on the breadline makes you grow up very quickly.

I'd be tempted to say that denial is turning to anger but some of them have been angry ever since the house price subforum was first created.... That's plenty of time for them to move on to 'bargaining'.... :)

Sure it's all a bit gloomy but it's a good kick up the backside. My company isn't going under. Why? Because we add value, we actually make people real money. My wife's on the other hand, yeah, she might lose her job but the PR industry is a load of nonsense anyway. Getting paid vast sums for results that are immeasurable.

Blimey, you're a loving husband aren't you - what respect you show to your wife's profession. Lucky woman.

Tell me, where can one meet a misogynistic, pompous, arrogant and ill-informed man such as yourself? They're a real catch, but they're fast becoming extinct in this 21st century.

And ironically, I didn't disagree with the rest of your rant. Shame you had to add such a !!!!!! comment.
