Does Anyone know how to stop scandisk?

I've got windows 98se. Everytime the computer isn't touched for 30 minutes scandisk automatically starts up and scans the harddrive. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening?

scan disk is running for a reason, windows cant certify the intergrity of your hard drive and so is checking it regularly, this sometimes happens before your hard drive dies, so my advice is back up everything you need from the hard drive before it dies and start looking for a new hard drive

You also may find it sitting in the task schedular, should have a small icon in the system tray (bottom right of screen). Double click on it and remove anything that is in there - they are not required and will do your system no harm if they are removed

You've almost certainly got a housekeeping taks running on your PC. Scandisk will not start if you've got a problem - Windoze98 wasn't that clever. (The only exception is if the PC didn't shutdown correctly, when it would run Scandisk before starting Windows.)

Can't remember where it is set after all these years, but there will almost certainly be a task in the Task Scheduler to run after 30 minutes idle time. You can change this to a longer time, or disable it all together. It's not a bad thing, and might catch a few errors early.

You may also find a defrag task runs as well. Try looking in the Control Panel under System, or right clicking the 'C' drive in explorer, select "Properties" and examining the tabs for housekeeping...
