Modem/Router

My current modem needs replacing and I was wondering whether anyone could suggest a good value for money one, with good specifications? Like most people I don't have much spare cash at the moment, but on the other hand don't want to get one that is going to break down in a few months. The IT Dept where I work recommended a Netgear DG834GUK but at nearly £50 this is a bit too much for my budget.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have no connection with the seller. but the thompson speedtouch 585v6 is a great little router, despite its ugly duckling looks and low price. I'd chose it over the netgear (and I have a 834GT as my spare router, another great toy)Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0
