Hi all,
I'm new to digital cameras having just purchased my first ... not a well known or expensive make (Premier), but comes with a reasonable spec.
I've downloaded the "Ulead" software and find it confusing to say the least ... used to using Picasso. My question is, if I uninstall the software which came with the camera, will I still be able to print photos (when I buy a printer) direct from my computer/Picasso, or do I need the actual camera software installed? I have XP installed by the way.
I know this is not money related as such, but would appreciate any advice ...
Thanks x

Yes you will, you do not need the software that came with the camera.0 -
Some printers come with software. But if you using XP, XP has a builtin viewer and printer its calles windows picture and fax viewer theres a print option at the bottom along with forward/backward for photos to view, rotate etc. Basic but it does the job. Why not still sue picasso I am sure that would print.0

If you are using XP then you can get at your photos by:
Connect the camera to the PC using the USB and make sure it is in 'play' mode and turn it on.
Start > My Computer > then you should have a drive called 'removeable disc drive' or similar, double click this then > double click DCIM
You should find your photos inside.
If you use the menu to COPY or MOVE your photos, they will be stored on your computer. If you use COPY, the photos will move to your PC and stay on your camera, if you use MOVE then they will come off your camera.
Check where they photos are going but it will usually be in My Documents or My Pictures.
You will be able to print using Xp viewer by following the prompts. Otherwise if you want to manipulate them (take out red eye etc) then you will need a basic software package.
Hope that helps.0 -
Thanks so much to you all for answering my question so fully ... I'll definitely continue with Picaso and have now deleted all my (pointless!) camera software.
This forum is terrific, but is only made so by people like yourselves who give up your time to help others and are always on hand to share your knowledge/experiences with others.
Right ... back to taking pictures

Agree with windym's comments. One of the best software packages that you can get for manipulating your pictures (brightness, contrast, colour, re-size, cropping, printing etc.) is Irfanview which is free to download and very easy to use.
