HMV Manchester - Guitar Hero World Tour lie :(

Hi everyone,
I here to vent about HMV. Several weeks ago in Manchester city center I noticed there was a special offer in the store window of a free bass guitar for any purchase of Guitar Hero World Tour the Band Kit. This was at the smaller HMV branch, I think the address is 21 Market Street.
Anyway I bought the game and was told they did not have any bass guitars in stock but as long as I kept the receipt I could come back when they did and pick one up. 3 weeks later and they still have not had any stock, so I wrote a complaint letter to the head office. They recently wrote back saying that this offer was only on pre-orders back in November and that I must have been given the wrong information.
I am wondering if any one else saw this offer. Or if any one else made this same purchase?? This offer of a free bass guitar was on around the start of December and was only taken off last week.

I'd write back. You were given information on which you based your purchase. The fact that the information was incorrect isn't your problem, but they seem to think it is.
If you said you were going to pay £99, but only paid £49 and said you'd pay the rest later, only failing to pay as you weren't paid as you thought you would be? would they be ok with that?
I presume you've opened the box and so can't return it?Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0 -
hi thanks for the replies
yes the HMV store I mentioned is the one near Vodafone, USC and Boots. i'm quite sure the advert in the window didn't mention anything about pre-order as I checked with staff members before making the purchase. they said that I would have to check regularly to see if this free bass guitar had come in stock.
i do remember a week or so before release they had a campaign about the same offer but with pre-orders but that was earlish November. this advert i saw in the window was early December.
i have written a letter back, detailing everthing again. also mentioning this would be false advertising if they don't supply me with the freebie. so fingers crossed.0 -
The exact same happened to me but at the GAME store in Wigan.
It seems like this is a massive Swizz, where retailers are trying to entice us into their stores using this cheeky scam. not very nice!0
