Family friend has a fractured back and is meant to travel in 30 days.

Hi as the tread title says, a family friend has fractured her back, nothing major, she needs to take a few weeks off work.
She is meant to be going on holiday mid January, will the pressure in the plane at high alttitude cause problems?
Basically will she have to cancel?

Thank you.

I would take advice from her doctor on whether to take the holiday. Also her travel insurance may not cover her if she doesn't advise them

Exactly what I was going to write caz. Advice from doc and advising travel insurance company a must as she will not be covered if anything happens

Surely seeking professional medical advice is the obvious option.
  • Your family friend needs to seek medical advice as surely it depends on the nature of the fracture etc...

OH fractured his back whilst skiing a couple of years ago and had to fly back home in a helicopter to a RAF base as a) the plane may have done him more damage and b) he had to lie flat on his back. Your family friend also perhaps should check that the airline are happy for her to fly and should definately inform her travel insurance company so that she is covered. OH and I are going skiing again in Jan (1st time since the accident) and we've made sure we have written confirmation from the insurance co that they know he has previously broken his back and they are happy to still insure us. I think we had to pay a bit extra but it surprisingly wasn't as much as I thought.
