                    LO- RATE TELECOM
If you are called from the above company please do not speak to them. They have just "slammed" my father(this I am told is the name for the scam they have just pulled). Now they are demanding £395.00 plus vat to cancel the supposedly verbally agreed contract. They managed to take both of his phone line and now he is left with no phone.
I have spent the whole day trying to sort this mess out, BT, Ofcom, Otelo, the police, trading standards, local radio and solicitors.
This company is being investigated by many people I have been told.
They claim to be BT and before you know it is too late and they cut you off and then demand money. They threatened me with the police when I told them that I would visit them at thier offices to talk about this matter, they are well versed in fending off disgruntled customers. Their "Customer Relations Manager" will not speak to the customers.
Please contact me if you need more information.

I know you've said you've een speaking to BT but have they put you through to the Carrier Pre Select (or CPS) department?
BT receive thousands of calls a day from customers that have had their phone lines 'hijacked' by these companies pretending to be BT or affiliated with BT.
So they have a dept specially set up to help you get it sorted.
I remember the staff being really helpful and seemed very well trained.
Call BT again, explain the situation and asked to be put through.
These type of companies are pathetic and cause lots of grief, especially for older people who can go a long time unaware of transfering their home lines.
 Good luck0

I have managed to resolve this problem and got my parents lines reconnected.
Be VERY AWARE of people trying to get you to join a new phone company over the phone. Get them to send you the information, take your time and do research. If you are reading this then you have access to the internet. Go to GOOGLE type in the companies name and look for reviews good or bad. I did it for Lo-Rate Telecom and I found some interesting articles.
The governing bodies were absolutely useless. I used local radio, the press and spoke to the companies doing business with Lo-Rate Telecom to get enough leverage to resolve this problem. It took me 2 working days to find the right way to get at these people.
Trading Standards of Hertfordshire are very interested in the company.
It is not easy to resolve these problems and many people just pay up.
If you get caught or you know anyone who has been caught, fight, fight, fight and then fight some more. It worked for me.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
