I was going to buy a dvd player for my DH, I had a quick look but now Im very confuddled!

I dont have a lot to spend, about £100 max. I saw this reduced in Argos, http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5337589/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CHome+entertainment+and+sat+nav%7C10199181/c_2/2%7Ccat_10199181%7CDVD%2C+Blu-ray+and+video%7C10199337.htm

but want sure if I should buy a recorder or blu ray, can you tell me what you would prefer and why??

If you have an HD TV, I would go for the Blu Ray player.

It depends what your husband wants though; does he want to watch high-def movies or does he want to record TV programmes?
  • Unfortunately a bit of both, and a blu ray doesnt record does it? Our standard DVD player is busted and he is always moaning so I htought Id just get another...but its never simple for me with technology lol!

We have a HD ready TV, would I be best getting a blu ray and then further down the line getting a Sky +??

That's certainly what I would do.

Sky + is much more convenient than a DVD recorder in my opinion, though I guess it depends on where you want to watch your recordings.
  • What use is a memory card with a blu ray?! Is it a good feature to have?

Just thought I add my views

Blue ray although is the best way to watch HD content at it native 1080p obviously depends on your system particularly the tv to get the best out of it. Most HD tv's are just 720p which in itself is bloody brill

But if you want to use blue ray a lot it could end up expensive having to buy the discs (not sure if anyone rents them yet)

Also Sky+ are not the only boxes that can record and playback via PVR (personnel Video Recorder) and you can also get free HD via the BBC HD channel on Freesat (not sky) I just watched tonight Little Dorrit and Apparitions in full 1080i. Obviously there is a one off cost in buying the boxes and demand so far is out stripping supply

I would love a Blue ray player but I am holding out for prices to drop including discs. I find a decent DVD player with up scaling does the job great for now.

I dont think any tv network in UK as yet actually sends the full HD at 1080p

True, of Sky and Freesat, nor are they likely to, any time soon.;)

    Hels123,

You may find * this * helpful (once you get past the ad  ).

Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:

As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.
