Warping down to the quality. Smoking can be just need cleaning. Mine seem to do it all the time at the mo (Mermaids) when I use sunflower oil on them.
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb

Cheaper baking trays will warp a little when they're heated. Mine do it. It's probably caused by the section of tray where the food is being at slightly lower temperature to the rest of the tray.

Teflon shouldn't do it. It is designed for space after all. I'd imagine it'd take something a little hotter than an oven to make teflon smoke.....

Are you sure you're just not trying to get out of cooking ? ;):D

I was using sunflower oil but it happens when I don't aswell!

Is it the oven or trays that need cleaning?

Get rid - NOW! Dont even think of keeping those trays. Theres obviously some sort of nasty chemicals on them - I'm guessing a cheap non-stick thing of some description. I wont even have anything non-stick of any description myself.

But there is clearly something nasty in the composition of those trays - for the sake of a few £s is it worth it subjecting yourself to that - not to mention what might be "emigrating" into the food you put on them.

I am also looking at comment no 14 and wondering what you are cleaning that cooker with.....

    Teflon fumes.....(or nonstick fumes).

I have a cockatiel (bird) and in all the care books it clearly states you must not use nonstick cooking stuff without shutting the bird away in another room. the fumes it gives off can kill birds. can't be good for humans!

If those trays are 'brand new' - did you give them a good wash before using them, southernscouser?

I have 2 cheapie (SmartPrice) baking trays and 1 good one - but don't get any fumes at all from them - though the cheapie ones do have a tendency to bend a bit in the oven.

Is there a possibility that there could have been some fat/grease deposited on the grilling element? I used to have one of those mini cookers where there is a grill element at the top and that used to give off very pungent smells if I tried to cook oven chips (or similar) at a high heat - especially after grilling sausages/bacon.

Another time, I got fumes when I hadn't thoroughly rinsed and wiped out the cooker after cleaning it.

Hope you get to the bottom of it soon.

Good luck southernscouser, from a 'resident scouser' ;).

I had the same problem very bad fumes from the teflon ,so bad that the canary just suddenly died ,which makes you wonder what damage the fumes are doing to us.
