Sorry I haven't rplied sooner, but I've been a way for 2 weeks.

As for the size, ie 35mm, I too wondered about it as I hade various size negatives. so instead of even considering the slide thing, I simply pushed the different size negative through onto the glass. At first it bugged me that they were not level, but soon realised that as I view via picasa3, there is a level pic option, to that was soon rectified.

I did have some negs that were so large they wouldn't fit in the slit, so I simply trimmed them down. It's easy to see where it is safe to do that to avoid cutting through a body. The alternative is to do nothing.

yes, that is the model and price I paid.

  • Following the good report from Islandman I bought the ION Slide 2 PC scanner (Maplin's £64). Very disappointing results. Pics were v.underexposed and with a blue cast. Even PhotoShop could not resolve... gave up and got money back without hassle so not all bad !

    Thanks, Islandman for the help.

The cheap ones are ok for home users who don't have much expectations for quality, but if you want decent scans, as with most things you get what you pay for. I'd highly recommend the Canon and Nikon dedicated slide scanners, the results are fantastic. My current one was about £450, and the results are fantastic on pos and negs.

Was this able to do 110 film size negatives? If so, can you give me the exact model no. details please as I would be interested in looking further into this.
The Epson that I linked to above comes with masks for various sizes of negatives as well as 35mm slides. It automatically adjusts any discrepancies in orientation and colour balance (if you choose that option). That model is obsolete now (you might find one on eBay) but later models probably work as well. I happened to buy a 4870 some years ago and I'm really pleased with it. It's done thousands of scans without a hiccough.

Having just seen your post stating that you are disappointed, it will be my intention to seek out a few and hopefully show the results on here, but that will have to be on Friday now.

I'm haveng trouble location the "browse" button which normally allows you to select the pic you want. If I can get this to work, the five pics are about 35+yrs old and taken from slides.

I will wait to see if anyone can see this, I can't.

  • I have got the Canoscan 4200F and this has a built in negatives option for 6 negs at a time. This is supposed to be an excellent scanner for this and if the results from standard photos pictures are anything to go by the result will be excellent. Canon do refurbs of these on ebay every so often, I got mine for £32 plus postage of £8. They still come with everything from their base in Ireland

I have the same scanner (it has a light source in the lid for negatives and sides) and it does a fairly reasonable job.
