Big Confusion over the HD Formats !

Ok- Just trying to clear things up?
Not sure about it at all.

I udnerstand the Interlaced and Progressive difference.

So there is 720i, 720p and 1080i ?
I've heard 1080p is so expensive, no companies have even bothered to try it yet.

Now is 720p and 1080i nearly the same quality?
And 720i crap?

I don't really get which is which :D

There are many TVs capable of displaying 1080p. At present the only sources capable of 1080p are Blu Ray, HD DVD, the Playstation 3 and XBox360.

"Quality" is a subjective term, but many would argue that a good 720p TV is much better then a not so good 1080i or 1080p TV.
    And 720i crap?
While technically possible, in reality there's no such thing as 720i and if there were, it wouldn't be worth bothering with.

    1080p isn't "so expensive."

Basically, to transmit a 1080p signal, broadcasters would need far more bandwidth than they have to transmit such high quality. HD broadcasts are transmitted at 1080i, because it effectively uses half the bandwidth.

1080p is available through blu ray disks, because it goes straight up the HDMI cable.
