I want to buy some sweet and sour sauce and cook it with some pork in the slow cooker.
What type of pork would you recommend? I'll be buying it from Asda.
I've also got a joint of topside - can I cook that in the slow cooker and if so, how - with water? And how long for?

I like belly pork cooked slowly. The fat helps the meat stay moist. If you can't get that the rib chops are simular.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

The cheaper cuts of any meat tend to be the best slow cooked, so belly pork, or maybe a shoulder joint would be good. Topside is normally a roasting joint, but this can definatly be slow cooked as well.

Easy Jet...(Ha Ha!) I would use pork loin and ASDA do a whole loin for about £2.50+ that is great for stir frying. It would be a crying shame to cook topside in a slow cooker but if it's tiny then perhaps that's best. It would cook up like braised meat and fall apart but with onions and/or mushrooms and or barley would be lovely. If gravy too thin at end gently add (stirring all the time) a teaspoon of old fashion Bisto powder (better taste and cheaper than the granuals) and a teaspoon of cornflour mixed together by adding COLD milk in a separate bowl and adding VERY slowly to the pot. I use milk instead of water for casseroles as it gives a nice 'saucy' look and taste. If joint a decent size, put in a pan with a 1/2 cup of water or so (enough to barely cover bottom of pan) cover top with foil and roast on Gas 7 for 15 mins then reduce to 4 o5 (depending on how 'hot' an oven you have) for about 15/20 mins per pound. I reduce this time by 15 mins and zap the oven up to gas 7 for the last 15 mins with the foil off. The water gathers all the juice (for drop dead gorgeous gravy done as for above). I like beef pink so watch timing carefully to prevent overcooking.
Hope this helps.
