The kids have been next door to see their friends. Whilst there, they have benn on mum and dads computer. It would appear that they have being playing around with things they shouldnt, and have passworded the start up screen, where the household user selects their own account.
Now, mum and dad cannot access their own pc, the kids dont know what they put as a password, and im expected to sort it out!
Is there a way of 'guessing' the password and changing it to something the parents next door choose, that way I dont have to fork out for a computer specialist to charge me a fortune to rectify my kids naughty fingers?
Please help and educate us in this matter, the relationship with the 'jones's' depends on it!!!!

What operating system is it, do you know? XP, Vista? How did they set the password in the first place? On an existing account, or a new account?
Also, do the "Jones's" not know about supervising kids on computers?0 -

This might work press ctrl+alt+delete twice at the login screen then in the username box put in Administrator and leave the password field blank and try to login or if that doesn't work i would use ophcrack like DatabaseError said.0

The link DatabaseError posted is a LiveCD, so you'll need to burn it to disc, then boot from the CD (put the CD in the machine, turn it off, turn it back on, and then find some kind of "Boot Device Select" menu, or, failing that, the Setup - Delete key hammering on startup, normally - will have the options in it). Once it loads, it'll do the work, which is, as the kids say, "win".0
