    Hi Helen,
welcome to the gang! Its dead simple and easy to do so we might as well try, you do end being more interested in finding the cheapest price tbh. It's almost a way of re-affirming bargain hunting skills!

This thread was removed because it was thought to be too much about making money from Haggling rather than about saving money. I asked them to put it back after explaining.

For this reason please keep content to the buyers point of view and not the hagglers or it will be deleted again.

    Thanks Tony

    HI Tony,
Just to confirm, we can only talk about using the site to save money rather than make money?

Strictly yes, but I think its more about getting the right balance.

This web site is all about Money Saving and therefore making money out of people helping people find the best price is against the principles of the site.

However the mods do understand that this Haggle4me can also help shoppers.

If a Moneysaver has already asked for help on Moneysavingexpert, they have nothing to loose to list on Haggle4me to get an even better price, the mods understand this and will me monitoring this thread to ensure it sits with MSE principles.

I myself have helped 10 users on haggle get the best price and am now an advanced user.

We do however have to be careful, we risk the chance of withholding information in order to charge people for help and this should not happen, all moneysavers should help each other without charging.

I will not stop to help people on MSE whenever I see a request for help finding the best price if I'm able to help.

I would totally agree by your last point, if someone asks for a cheap price then I think everybody here would offer to find a better price. I think we shoudl all remember that.
  • It's really dumb that you can't include cashback in the haggle price (as per FAQ 13), would make more sense to let people "opt out" of it, if they wished to.
Same with the eBay powerseller requirement - what if it's an eBay business (and thus covered by Trading Standards Regulations anyway).
Oh well, a spose these creases will be ironed out in future - the site is new after all.

Nothing stopping you from still telling the person that they can save a few extra bob (maybe even twobob!) by using a cashback site.

I guess the reason for not allowing cashbacks is that it isn't really lowering the price. For example, if you buy something by going through greasypalm and get a £10 cashback, but it is your first (and perhaps only) time you use the site, then you won't ever actually see the tenner because cashback payments are only made if you have more than £25 in your account. Even if the person does buy other stuff through the site it could be months before they get their money back. On this basis you could argue that it isn't fair to knock the £10 cashback off the price as the person may never get it.

As someone who uses cashback sites it seems strange to me (and probably most of the people on this forum) that other people don't. However, you have people like my mum who have only just found the confidence to start buying online and this sort of thing makes her nervous. I guess there are lots of people like her that don't have much confidence when it comes to doing things online and using cashback sites is a step too far for them. If you think that most people who list things on haggle4me are going to be like my mum (people like us find our own bargains) then I can see why they don't allow it. That said, perhaps there should be the option to allow or disallow cashback discounts?

    My twobob worth anyway!

Twobob is correct cashback sites should not be allowed for the reason listed.

I have made a few suggestions which I hope they will include:

To allow non winning haggles as some people go straight in with a really low price which could be a mistake or later go out of stock and if there is only the one haggle there is no second one to fall back to, I won haggles because people have supplied incorrect information and its fallen back to my one.

allow savings of under £20 either for no fee or reduced fee, you have done the work why not let them know. Its frustrating when you can save someone £19 but can't tell them. At the end the shopper would get a message to say, "we were unable to save you £20 however one haggler can save you £19, would you like to purchase this information for the reduced fee of £xx"

Its saving people money thats fun.

Those sound like good ideas. Will be interested to see how they respond.
