Hi guys,
I need some desperate help. I've decided to go bankrupt as I have about £50k worth of unsecured debt.
I've stopped paying my creditors about 2 months ago (as I thought this was the way to go) and will be filling out the forms to go bankrupt in the next month or so.
I had a call from one of the creditors today and they think I won't be able to go bankrupt as I've made no attempt to pay any of the creditors.
I'm really scared now. I've been worrying about the bankruptcy before deciding to do it and I felt relief when I came to terms with it.
Have I made a mistake in not paying my creditors and tried to save money for the bankruptcy? Please help, I'm so worried now :-(
Richard.

I dont think that is the case, you should still be able to go bankrupt, have you sought advice from your local CAB? Or try CCCS.
Someone with a bit more knowledge than me will be along shortly! Its very helpful on this site, you won't have any problems getting advice! x0 -

Yes you can go bankrupt. My best mate has done it by getting help from the CAB, it cost her £400 and she went to court signed some papers and now they have decided not to take her car off her. Her house is worth £60k and as yet no decision on that. she had £25k in debt. She got help.Mortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230

I've been so worried about that, I thought I had read that I should stop paying my creditors but when they said I should be paying a token payments to them and that I seemed unphased by it I got really worried.
I don't want to go bankrupt but I've resigned myself to the fact that this is the only option for me. I was very upset that the person on the end of the phone seemed to think that I was happy to do this... it's taken me a long time to get over the worry of everything!!
Have I done the right thing in stopping making payments?0 -
Stopped paying mine and have told them all to phone me tomorrow afternoon so I can give them further information. Guess what gonna give them OR details!!!Of all the things I have lost I miss my mind the most0

Please stop worrying. DCA's will say anything to get you to give some money to them. It took my BIL 4 months to save up and go BR and the stuff they said to him really was unbelivable. 1 even said that he would end up in prison if he didn't pay. Needless to say he didn't and actually got a early discharge:j0 -

The best thing to do is to stop paying everything other than the priority debts/items, rent/mortgage, council tax food travel to work and untilities (skip all of them except the rent/mortgage.travel and food if it gets bad) and save up.
You are doing the right thing.
It might be a good idea not to talk to DCas whilst you save up.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Dear Richard,
They lied to you. Take a deep breath, read through some threads, and do exactly as RAS and the others advised above.
