Booze Loss Leaders Best Supermarket Deals!!!

Hi

Christmas is nearly upon us if anyone had missed it and the supermarkets are throwing lots of loss leader deals out to tempt us.

I have started this thread for MSERs to post the best deals in their supermarkets on BOOZE only.

Lately we have noticed that Asda have been doing bottles of - what appears to be pretty decent wine for 3 for £10. We have tried the Gallo and Lindemans normally priced at £8 and £6.50 per bottle so quite a good saving.

They also have bottles of Moet champagne for £20 which even beats the Thresher coupon deal.

They also have deals on crates of Premium lagers and ciders i.e Becks and Stella for 2 for £16. Seeing that our local bars and pubs charge £3+ a bottle quite a saving!!

We have also noticed a Morrisons advert on the premium crates at £9 each or 3 for £20.

Our local Tesco express has had deals on lately. Crates of Becks - 15 bottles I think were £6.99. The last week they have had 6 packs of Becks half price at £3.11 and now they have an offer on 4 packs of Stella - £3.88 single or 2 packs for £4!!!

Please add any further deals / loss leaders to this list.

I know that there is a thriving giving up board on this site. But in essence is a money saving site and any help for saving money helps. A lot of people drink more than usual at Christmas and a costly time in general so saving money on non "essentials" helps.

Please drink responsibly and NEVER DRINK and DRIVE!!! ;)

  • Sorry mods - just read the T&C so possibly in the wrong section - even though a short term offer based. Please move if you think response will be better elsewhere.

Did search for booze but maybe called something else or wrong keywords,

    regards

Noticed an advert on telly today for wolf blass in a 3 for 10 - not often you see it that cheap...

ETA - woops, think it was at asda?
  • Yes I think Wolf Blass was one of the ones at ASDA. Whatever a pretty bloody good deal - when we checked our reciept we had saved £14 on the wine deal which was the Gallo on sale individually at £8 + a bottle - pretty chuffed.

Then again it kind of forces you to drink but hey - the point of the OP is saving money.

A large glass of house wine at any of our local pubs, clubs, bars - Bournemouth Dorset - will cost £5 at least. Combined with a bottle of Becks at £3 + you are looking at nearly a tenner for 2 drinks!!

When you can get a whole bottle of half decent wine for £3.33 and 36 bottles for £16 which equates to 45p a bottle you can see why we don't go out till late.

As the Americans like to say with an addition from Mark the Englishman from Peepshow - "You do the math (s)"!!!

Useful thread but please don't refer to supermarket deals as 'Loss Leaders' because I can assure you the supermarkets do not make a loss on them.

The suppliers fund these deals and the supermarkets still make their percentage whatever the price. Suppliers are often forced to fund reductions or they lose the contract.

Tesco et al are just the middlemen making a percentage on everything they sell.

3 for tenner at sainsbo last night included quite a few wines at well over a fiver a bottle. Also, further 5% off if you buy six - they sell individual bottles?
It aint over til I've done singing....

Thanks for the replies on this thread - wish I could quote more than one!!

4% I guess to a private seller like me is nothing but added up over many thousand is a lot.

I don't understand how they can sell 3 bottle that are normally sold at say £8 a bottle = £24 for a tenner - unless the manufacturers really are taking a hit - or they selling at say £3 a bottle.

Anyway - have been drinking too much cheap booze and listening to Derrick May so can't type too much any more lol. Any offers please post.....

A number of these deals work by BSing you, somewhat unnecessarily, I feel.

There's no way either the gallo (especially) or lindermans was ever £8 / bottle, more like a fiver. So you're actually getting buy 2 get one free. And they quite often have a quid off them, so maybe no more than £4/bottle on a good day.

The wolf blass is a little different, though, it's not normally in these deals - it's normally 7.99 down to 4.99 or something like that when on offer, so I think 3.33 a bottle is pretty sweet.

Don't get me wrong, by the way, I love all these wines (probably more than it's cool to do so, these days) - they're just not as great a deal as they make out.

Wish there was an asda within 30 miles :)

I know where you are coming from but this isn't the standard Gallo but the special stuff that is usually £7 - 8 + a bottle - not the bog standard stuff - if that makes a difference lol
