OS Vegetables, whats best fresh or frozen?

I buy mainly fresh.
Mainly because I haven't got very big freezer and it is constantly filled up with offers and Costco shopping and also because some veggies I don't think will be the same frozen.
Like caulli, brocolli, leeks&carrot we usually have butter steamed so not sure how that would work from frozen. I only use spinach for pizza topping - again not sure how that would work from frozen. If I make spinach soup then I do use frozen spinach.
About to try frozen peppers for stir fries.
Some things I would never even consider frozen.. like asparagus or courgettes. not sure why. I've never seen them used from frozen. Not sure you could.
Otherwise peas and chips always come from the freezer already.0 -
I always used to only buy fresh, but the amount we were spending and wasting with them going off became unacceptable!
So now, always buy frozen:
Mixed veg (peas carrots cauli sweetcorn usually)
Broccoli
Sweetcorn
Spinach
Buy fresh:
Stir fry veg - mange tout, baby corn etc, not keen on frozen mixes
Courgettes
Mushrooms
Aubergines
Onions
Spring onions
Potatoes (Always have some wedges in freezer though for emergencies)
Celery (probably could chop & freeze to save waste
Parsnips
Carrots when needed, I generally find one rotting at the back of the cupboard
Only I eat peppers so I buy fresh when needed or v. cheap then slice and freeze the rest for casseroles
Usually buy leeks for soups etc too but this thread has given me the idea of buying frozen, I also hate preparing and cleaning them out!0 -
I only eat frozen spinach. I used to eat frozen peas but I stopped those too and have them canned instead because I didn't like them.
To me frozen vegetables lose all their taste, cauliflower for example changes in texture, it's spongy and with no flavour (although I've not had it for a few years), I really can't stand it.
Same for frozen carrots and green beans, yuk!
However I freeze fresh vegetables that are left over, or bought with yellow stickers, without blanching or anything, and use them for soup, but no more than 50% frozen v. fresh.
I've started cooking more and more veggie meals with pulses, and cut the amount of meat we eat, but would never give up my fresh veggies.0 -
I buy frozen peas, spinach, corn and soy beans. I buy fresh spinach too, but if I need a lot then frozen is much better value. I don't like the 'frozen mixed veg' as I think it's tasteless and it reminds me of school dinners, but I think stuff like peas are fine, as long as you reseal the bags securely as you use them and you don't leave them in the freezer too long.0

Mainly frozen. I must be honest that they do not taste as good as fresh but with only two of us I can't afford fresh as there is too much waste. I do buy fresh where I can buy one for one meal eg 1 carrot.
I always put mine straight into boiling water, I find that helps with the cooking.0 -
I only buy frozen peas, rest it fresh.
I can't understand those who are single/couples who say fresh vegies go off before you use them, why are you buying so much? Even as a family I often buy one carrot or parsnip, half a dozen mushrooms, one or two onions, I only buy what need for the dishes I'm going to make, I never buy bags of anything other than potatoes.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

I imagine that depends on life lifestyle and access to shops. I sometimes don't get to a shop for two weeks at a time and my daily option would the very expensive village shop.Piglet

I do buy fresh peas when they are in season but we always eat these raw out of the shells
i dont like the taste of frozen veg, I am vieggie 99% of the time but will occasionally eat fish though. OH and DS also love veg so we eat loads and very rarely have anything that goes off before we use it0
