Definitely need a bigger gap between the floor and the grate - and use a ash pan
As I said previously the ones in the pub I work burn through really quick - this was mostly in part no ash pan and because the build up of hot ashes just cause a furnace situation.
Finally the last grate we had in the pub disintigrated in november so the pub has been burning more coal then everjust on the floor of the fire place - meaing no heat and a big flipping hole appearing. Hubby just went round and fitted new firelace - ash pan, grate and surround - who lot was 60 quid from a builders merchants - half the price then from a fireplace company0 -
Hi Manda
Just to clarify, my parent's fire is not free standing. It is fitted to the wall or in a chimney breast in the same way as a natural gas fire. Some gas fire manufacturers produce fires in both natural and LPG versions.
