Hi,

We are planning to travel south of wales during Christmas period and will stay in Merthyr Tydfil travel lodge.

any comments on this hotel.
any suggestions that we could find a pub/hotel to have christmas dinner at christmas day.
Any recommendations to go to any waterfalls.

However, I was told that it was not a good idea to travel wales during christmas. Is it true?

Why the hell not??????? We have roads in Wales you know  Public transport is patchy on Christmas Day and Boxing Day but no different to most other places. Not sure where you can get Xmas dinner but Brecon Beacons offers some good river views (about 30 minutes drive)

Maybe he's heard the rumours that we let our sheep have a free rein over Christmas? :rotfl:

OP, if your looking for something really special then you won't be disappointed with Craig-y-nos Castle http://www.craigynoscastle.com/events.htm
Christmas Day dinner is very popular and you can visit several waterfalls in the area, plus the National Showcaves for Wales is just up the road.

As for the wild sheep, just look them in the eye as you pass and they may not attack.

please don't come to wales. anyone who writes something like this would be a danger on our roads. stay where you are. in fact, don't leave the house. that's a good idea.

I'd advise booking Christmas dinner, chances of turning up on the day and getting a table will be slim to non existent. http://www.walestouristsonline.co.uk/midwales/hotels/index.html maybe of help.

Hotel is in a convenient location and is surrounded by the new lesuire centre, cinema and a nando's.

As a poster said the Brecon Beacons are about 15 minutes drive up the road and id recommend the Nant Ddu but not sure if they do a Christmas Dinner.

    Enjoy your trip
